In this article, we would be torch-lighting the power of God’s word written in biblical scripture.

7 abilities of the Word of God

1. The power of the word of God in Divine leading.

One of the ways God leads us is by speaking to us through His word. In God’s word, we find instructions, divine counsel, and clarity based on the wisdom of God able to usher us to a desired destination.

Have I not written for you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, that I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth.

Proverbs 22:20

God’s word is also disciples and trains all who are God’s faithful servants (you and I) just as doing the will of God.

Out of heaven he let you hear his voice, that he might discipline you. And on earth he let you see his great fire, and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

Deuteronomy 4:36

2. Able to influence and transform

One of the works of the Holy Spirit is to use the word of God in the heart of a believer to sponsor transformation. When the word of God resonates within us, something happens. By the ministry of the Spirit of God, the word of God comes alive in us and transforms us for the better.

The word of God is also powerful to improve your prayer life and influence your day-to-day decisions and actions(Phil 1:27).

3. Expose, and Overcome the devices of the devil;

Anchor text: Matt 4:2-10

It is often believed that the greatest wars are fought in the mind. One weapon of warfare effective against the devices and machinations of the devil is the word of God (2 Cor 10:4-5). By the scriptures, Jesus overcame the temptations of the tempter.

When we make prayer affirmations based on what God has spoken over us, we fight the devil with God’s word which vanquishes him.

4. Power to create and effectuate

God Almighty chooses to be known to His people and all of mankind as Yahweh creator of the universe. In the opening pages of the book of Genesis, we discover how God created the universe through His Word.

The word of God is powerful to effectuate the desires of God in the physical world. Not only is God able to speak worlds into existence, but he can also, by his words, forge the future.

The documented prophecy of the Messiah by prophets of old was later fulfilled in the time of Jesus Christ. If He says it, consider it done.

But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?”

Matthew 26:54

That he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

1 Corinthians 15:4:

5. Reveals the mind of God

This is one importance of God’s word: it reveals the mind of God. Through the words of the Bible, we see the mind of God on different matters. Just as reading a book is like journeying through the mind of its author, the written word of God is able to reveal the mind of God.

You can know God’s disposition to matters (such as sin, marriage, leadership, godliness, etc) when you accurately look through the lens of scripture.

6. Able to strengthen God’s relationship with His people

Great words aid understanding between the parties involved. The word of God fosters a thriving relationship with God’s people.

It would be a monotonous relationship with God if all communications came solely from us during prayers. But the gift of God’s word is a source of communication that makes our interactions with him bilateral.

Pertaining to our relationship with God, the power of God’s word renews our mind to know God’s will(Rm 12:2), stirs up faith (Rm 10:17) and strengthens our convictions.

7. The power of God’s word for liberation and enlightenment

Anchor texts: Psalm 19:8, Ps 119:105

The power of God’s word is shown in the liberation of minds that were once held captive by limiting beliefs or ignorance. The Bible is all about the story of God’s salvific plan for mankind through His Messiah Jesus and the Gospel ushers in this reality for the person who believes it (2 Tim 4:15).

God’s word has enlightened us and given us a perspective to peer the world. In the LIMA award-winning song of the year, You I Live for, Nigerian gospel artist, Moses Bliss, writes thus;
