I used to think favor was random—that some people were just “lucky” while others weren’t. Then I had one of those seasons where everything seemed to align perfectly. Opportunities I hadn’t even applied for came knocking. Doors opened that I didn’t even know existed. People went out of their way to help me succeed.

It felt surreal, almost undeserved. But as I reflected on those experiences over the past few days, something became crystal clear: God’s favor is palpable. It will reinvigorate you in a manner you can’t deny its power and influence.

Here’s what I discovered that changed everything: what people call luck is, for the believer, actually divine orchestration, and it’s not arbitrary. There’s a formula—a biblical blueprint that positions you to experience God’s favor consistently.

Understanding Divine Favor vs. “Luck”.

The difference between Favor and Luck

Most people define luck as when opportunity meets preparation. While that’s partially true, I’ve lived through situations where I wasn’t prepared enough, didn’t know enough, yet things still fell into pleasant places. The stars aligned in my favor, so to speak. How was this possible?

“The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.”
— Ecclesiastes 9:11 (NIV)

That phrase “time and chance” isn’t referring to random luck—it’s divine orchestration. God has His timing, and He positions the right people in the right places at the right moments. The question isn’t whether God wants to bless you (He does), but whether you’re positioned to receive it.

The Favor Formula: Three Foundational Principles

After much introspection and Bible study, I want to share with you the three principles that create what I call “The Favor Formula” AKA “3P’s”

Principle 1: Positioning (Being at the Center of God).

Favor is about position and proximity. Be at the center of God. This isn’t just poetic language—it’s a spiritual reality with practical implications.

Think of it like a dance. There is God’s “movements” and your “responses”. To His character you emulate, to His will you submit, and His instituted principles you recognize and respect. When you’re in sync with God’s rhythm, you naturally end up where His blessings are flowing.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
— Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

As I love to say, “to be at the Centeredness of God, you have to make him the center of your life”. This principle of position and proximity holds true for the Christian believer who has accepted the Lord Jesus as Lord over his life. By Baptism into Christ, we sit where Jesus does. We enjoy what he does (including Divine Favour).

Practical Application:

  • Make God the center of your life, not an addition to it.
  • Embrace Jesus.
  • Align your daily rhythms with spiritual disciplines
  • Position yourself where God is already working.
  • Choose environments that nurture your relationship with Him

Principle 2: Partnership (Aligning with His Will).

Partnership with the will of God is a principle for favor

God’s character reveals that He is generous and kind. It is dependable. Not dependent on our actions. His nature is to bless, but partnership with His will amplifies our capacity to receive those blessings.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Solomon understood this principle when God said, “Ask for anything.” Instead of asking for wealth or long life, Solomon asked for wisdom to serve God’s people well. God was so impressed with his heart alignment that He gave him what he asked for AND what he didn’t ask for.

“Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked… Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor.”
— 1 Kings 3:11-13 (NIV)

Partnership means:

  • Submitting to God’s will even when it doesn’t make immediate sense
  • Asking “What are You doing here?” instead of “What can You do for me?”
  • Aligning your goals with His kingdom purposes
  • Being willing to serve others as part of His plan

Principle 3: Purity of Heart (Identity and Actions Working Together)

This principle goes deeper than behavior modification—it’s about who you are becoming, not just what you do. Jesus laid this out clearly in the Beatitudes:

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
— Matthew 5:8-9 (NIV)

Notice the pattern: “Blessed are the [identity/perpetual character trait], for they shall [receive God’s promise].” It’s not about perfect performance but about the condition of your heart and the authenticity of your identity.

I’ve learned that doing good to others without wanting something in return positions you for unexpected favor. When your motives are pure and your heart is sincere, you operate in God’s kingdom values naturally. And His kingdom operates on different economics than the world’s system.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.”
— Luke 6:38 (NIV)

Purity of heart includes:

  • Sincere motives in your relationships and work
  • Generosity without expecting immediate reciprocity
  • Integrity when no one is watching
  • A heart that genuinely cares about others’ well-being

How These Principles Work Together

These three principles aren’t disjointed—they coexist together in a system that churns out favor. In a nutshell, God is kind, and because of this He wants you to enjoy favor and has instituted principles as a way to facilitate it continuously.

Here’s the beautiful truth: when you position yourself at God’s center, partner with His will, and maintain purity of heart, favor becomes a natural byproduct rather than something you chase.

The secret is simple: position yourself at God’s center, partner with His will, and maintain purity of heart. Let this favor formula transform not just your circumstances, but your entire perspective on how God desires to bless His children.

The End Game: All Things Working for Good

Here’s what I’ve come to understand about favor: it’s about the end being good. Even when circumstances look challenging, God’s favor is working behind the scenes to orchestrate outcomes that serve His purposes and your ultimate good.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
— Romans 8:28 (NIV)

You might be experiencing favor right now and not even recognize it. The job you didn’t get might have saved you from a toxic environment. The relationship that ended might have protected your heart for something better. The delay you’re frustrated about might be divine timing, positioning you for something greater.

Trust in the lovingkindness of God.

The Promise of Pursued Blessings

When you implement this favor formula consistently, something remarkable happens: you stop chasing blessings and they start pursuing you. Opportunities seek you out. People are drawn to help you. Resources appear when you need them most.

This isn’t about manipulation or trying to “work” the system. It’s about positioning yourself in the flow of God’s goodness and allowing His nature to express itself through your life.

God’s largeness of heart and willingness to bring many into this dispensation mean this favor isn’t reserved for a select few. It’s available to anyone willing to position themselves according to His principles. These are the reasons I took to share this with you.

Remember: favor isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being positioned. It’s not about earning God’s love—it’s about positioning yourself to receive what He’s already eager to give.

As you apply these three principles, watch how divine orchestration begins to replace what you used to call “luck.” Your life will become a testimony to God’s goodness, and others will want to know your secret.
